different posi question

i have a 3.45 stock posi unit under my 90 iroc. when i am stopped and try to make a really hard turn, especially to the left, it wants to "push" the front end instead of wanting to roll and turn. it does it forward and reverse. is this normal?

Doesn't sound normal. Sounds like your posi is locked up like having a spool.

Sounds like it's trying to lock up, or maybe someone has rebuilt it with an extra clutch or 2.

Can stock units be rebuilt? I know my Auburn one can.

i am not sure. it will light both tires up from a dead stop , no torque braking necessary on this car. it just feels strange when you are trying to turn at very low speeds trying to get into a parking space or backing in or out of a tight area.

The posi will lock both tires so they spin equally. It will allow one tire to break free and turn more than the other when going into a turn. However, your unit sounds like it is not allowing it to break free in a turn.

The stockers can be rebuilt, but most just replace them. Since the SLP take-out posi was only $99 for so long it wasn't worth the trouble. It used to be common practice to rebuild them with an extra clutch (sometimes 2,) which tightened the posi substantially. It also caused it to wear out again sooner.
