Difference between T-5 and T-10

could anyone explain the main difference between a borges and warner T-5 and T-10 tranmission. i'm looking to change my 350 turbo over to a manual but i want something that is relatively cheap and will take a bit of abuse. i'm runnin a rebuilt 350 sbc in my 83 z28 and can't take the boredom of the automatic anymore. i know the T-5 is only rated at like 330 ft/lb of torque and i'm pretty sure i'm over that mark, however, i know absolutely nothing about a T-10, i only heard a friend of mine speaking about it. any suggestions or help much welcomed, thanks.
Dustin

The T-10 is the latest (t-10/Super T-10) version of the "classic 4 speed" such as used in the late 2nd generation cars. You will have no overdrive, but it is regarded as being more durable than a T-5. It also uses an external shifter instead of the internal rail shifters used on the T-5/T-56. I'm not sure how well the linkage will fit in the trans tunnel of a late model car (only because I've never tried it, it may fit just fine). I still suggest the LT1 version of the T-56 as the best swap option for a 3rd gen (I've done T-5 and T-56 swaps in automatic 3rd gen cars).

It will not fit just fine. The 4 speed linkage is off set to the left. And will require you to modify the trans tunnel. Also you will not be able to use the stock center console.

I guess that answers that question (which is why I said I wasn't sure). Thanks.

G force has mods to take a T-5 to higher hp levels. That would be the best of both worlds, an easy to swap in tranny with the strenght to take the power of a healthy engine. And overdrive. You can buy the tranny outright or a kit.

But I don't know if it's available for GM T-5's or Ford only. You can ask them:

Tremec makes a 5 speed that will handle 450 ft lbs of torque.I dont know if it is a regular or tko or if its just an adapter to mount the one for the mustang, but it is a bolt in for the camaro.

Not intended as a slam. Writing to fast didn't reread.

And I agree the best swap would be the T-56 or the Tremec TKO 5 speed, etc.

Not taken that way. Just glad someone knew. I'd not tried to fit one and never even considered it as a swap in my 3rd gen so I really didn't know, but I suspected it would be tight if it fit at all.
