Crossmember bushings? For the tranny crossmember? or for the tranny itself?

Re: crossmember bushings

Lookup "Secondary Transmission Mount" from Energy Suspension.

For those who don't know, many early cars came with a 2 piece crossmember, attached with bushings, similar to miniature body bushings froma full frame vehicle. My car has these.

You wouldn't happen to have any pics of it would you?

I have seen cars with the old round tranny mounts, as opposed to the rectangular one, but my 85 2.8/A4 had the same crossmember and rectangular trannymount that my 87 305/A4 had.

Re: crossmember bushings

That's the way my 84 was. I had completely forgotten about them as the car has not been stock for a long time. I would just eliminate them. Or you could mod some poly mounts or bushing, or aluminum body mounts to fit. Shouldn't be very hard.

That's how my 84 is. The rubber piece between the tranny and the mount ripped (apparently by oil eating it) and when I bought the car and went to replace it, the rear of the tranny was angled to the passenger side and the drive shaft would knock on the side of the D.S. alley when I floored it. It was horrible. Suprised the tranny wasn't messed up.
