A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
From what I understand, there is no real way to improve the intake on our 3rd gens; hopefully I am wrong so I can squeez a bit more power out of it
Any help on a better-than-stock air-intake?

Re: A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
well you can go with the L69 dual snorkels or you can get an open element, the open element will give you more airflow but the air tends to be hotter since its from the engine compartment. i feel the extra flow outweights the restriction of the snorkels.
Re: A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
Since you say that the open element outweighs the dual snorkels, does it still outweight the fact that you will be sucking in an insane ammount of hot air from the engine?
Re: A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
i never had the snorkel so i can't compare, but if i were really concerned about it you could always get a ram-air or cowl hood and that solve airflow and air temp probs.
Re: A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
Getting a ram-air hood may solve temp problems, but what is going to solve my money problems to *buy* that hood
Besides, i LOVE my louvered hood

Re: A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
I've used both the open element and the snorkel(my car was a stock L69).With the open element i also got that "air lid" as i call it.I found there is a difference in performance between the two.Personally i liked the way the open element performed rather than the snorkels.Plus it sounds cooler:P
Re: A better means of Air Intake for my Camaro..
I talked to a few people a while ago (months anyhow..) and they said that the L69 snorkel is VERY rare as everyone wants them
KRS- What is the "air lid" you are referring to.. the air-filter lid now made by K&N? Would me converting to open-element from the current single-snorkel intake make any noticeable improvement?

i know some of us LS1 guys use a cone k&N filter, remove the stock air box all together and plumb turbo pipeing down under the car where the stock airbox picks up air and it is an improvement over ramair. We buy the turbo pipeing w/o the turbo basicially, its a filter down there instead of a turbo.

that gives u a 3 inch cowl induction, and lets u keep the hood louvers
and it has grills on the side of the cowl induction, looks pretty good, cost pretty much the same as any other fiberglass hood, u can find many others that sell this hood

Ya, I have always wanted a Iroc Turbo Hood (not daytona hood, silly
) But they are still way to expensive. They are fiberglass though? I didnt know *that* part...
Thanx for your input everybody, I think I will look for an open-element filter K&N (with the top-filter piece-thingy, lol).

turbo hood, daytona hood, doesnt matter, ive heard people call it both, i prefer to call it the daytona turbo hood, heh..
one thing you can do it take off the louvers, cut hole in the miffle of the indented part of the hood (under where the louvers would be) and then put the louvers back, itll suck alot of that hot air outa there and you can use an open elements.
and even if you didnt want to cut holes in your hood an open element is the way to go, alot better than the snorkel setup
