Crank bolt heli coiled and just a tiny bit slanted

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The assembly(balanced) is still on an engine stand , so I screw in the damper bolt to check straightness and it is a tiny bit slanted. This crank has a heli coil due to the damper bolt breaking . I am kind of nervous about this. Anybody want to share their thoughts on this? Also posted this on general engine tech section.

Re: Crank bolt heli coiled and just a tiny bit slanted

From the experience I have gathered in the automotive field, I'd be a little worried about it. Any bend in something especially something with rotating mass and the cintrifugal (sp?) force like a harmonic balancer could be trouble. I would think this would cause a balance problem. I could see it probably vibrating itself apart. Id think of something else to fix it, like tap it up a size or something if you can figure out a way.Otherwise good luck.

I am going to take the crank off and have a machine shop put it on a lathe , probably going with a metric bolt size.

I wouldn't be that concerned. Have run into that with figure 8 and demo cars before.
