computer question
It is constantly sensing and constantly controlling. In open loop, the sensing is limited because the O2 sensor isn't putting out a usable signal until it warms up a bit. When you get to the wider throttle openings, it goes open loop again but it is still controlling.
In closed loop it is sensing throttle position, exhaust O2, coolant temperature, engine speed, vehicle speed, manifold absolute pressure, barametric pressure. It is also looking for a load on the EGR valve solenoid and mixture control solenoid. In addition, it controls the torque converter clutch (if automatic) and A.I.R. diverter valve.
