Chirping sound from valve covers

I have a sound that sounds like a loose belt, but it only happens when I rev the engine, and when I'm under the hood it sounds like it is coming from the lifters or from around the valve cover area. I have checked the belts and they are tight. The oil only has about 1000 miles on it and I believe that it is 10W40. Anyone have any ideas?

See if the rockers are tight. If they are your lifters might be going away soon.

So if my lifters are going I have to change the Cam at the same time correct? Around how much does a lifter and Cam set run? I saw one for around $450, but that sounds a little high.

Also are these hydrolic cams or are they roller?

I believe you have a roller cam. You could take the manifold off and change the lifters without touching the cam which is a whole different ballgame. The 16 lifters are held down by a spider like retainer.

Pull off the belt and rule that out first.

I finally got some time to get it into the Hobby shop here on base and pulled the belt. It was tight, but it was going bad. Once I replaced that, the sound went away. Thank God too, I really didn't want to dump that much money in a car I just got and still owe on. But the lifters still make a ticking sound, I believe that they just need adjusting.

Thanks for all your help!
