You should be able to run a OBD-I scanner, shouldn't you?

I believe they should have a OBD I port under the dash, though I'm not 100% sure as I've never owned a third gen.

Well if it has a OBD-I port you can run a OBD-1 scanner and get a code/description of whats wrong with your car.

You can turn the key on and jump the top row, right 2 holes and it should flash code 12 3 times and then flash the SES light code 3 times.

Then report back with the code.

If you use a metal paper clip in the top right holes of the port, with the car off, turn the key to on. The SES light will flash 1 beat...then 2 beats. That is code 12. It will do that 3 times. Then it will flash the first real code. Whatever it will be, again 3 times. Depending if you have more than one code, it will then reflash code 12 telling you that is all the codes.

It seriously takes less than a minute. I love obd1 for that, you don't need a scanner to see whats going on with the car.

The Paperclip scan is easier than anything you could ever do under the hood--- Easier than checking your air filter for bugs, even.

Get the flash code sequence, look it up on thirdgen.org and get back with us.

pull the chip....sounds like the "performance programming" is messing up some sensor signals.

heck you can even use a staple to jump the ports. as long as it's long enough to reach and it's metal then you'll be able to pull the codes that way. If you get us the codes we'll have a much easier time pointing you in the right direction
