charging??? voltage gauge???

got an 88 iroc and im doing away with the complete factory gauge cluster.

ive been told by a few people that if the voltage gauge isnt hooked up the car wont start or the alternator wont charge?

anyone heard anything like this? let me know, i hate to remove everything and be stuck in a bind.

thanks in advance.

That is not the case with this vehicle. Some older cars used ammeters in the voltmeter gauge and that's what those guys are talking about. My sister's old 86 Mustang was like that... what a dumb design... the gauge was too
