changing oil pan

changing oil pan

What do I need to do to remove old oil pan and put new one on. Car is a 1984 z28, trying to do on driveway hopefully w/o having to remove or lift engine

Depends on the pan you may need to at least lift the engine up. I am only familiar with the 350's so I can't be certain.

Depends on your mods.
If stock, you'll have to remove the exhaust Y-pipe from the exhaust manifolds. You may have to pull the distributor cap, depending on how high you lift the engine. You may have to pull the starter to get at the bolts next to it. If it's an auto, you'll have to pull the converter cover and be careful of the trans. coolent lines. Can't think of anything else, except generally being careful of the hoses and wires when you raise the engine.

I have to pull the tranny back to pull the pan on mine, even with the dist cap off and motor mount bolts out with the motor jacked up as high as it can go.

Sometimes you can get the pan to clear the flexplate/flywheel, sometimes not.
