carpet install
carpet install
taking the day off from work wensday cause ny is finally gonna have a dry day., besides setting sand bags on the carpet to help it conform(it is molded to this specific vehicle) anybody got any helpful hints to share that can make this install smooth(yes entire interior is gutted)
I'll throw the carpet out in the direct sunlight for awhile to warm it up and get it more "moldable". I've also used a heat gun as well to help with the molding, however, you have to be very careful not to stay in one spot for long or to accidentally set it down and forget about it.
Always, Always...... Always be very cognesent of where you cut the carpet. Remember, you can always cut more carpet off, but not exactly sew it back on. Especially around the console and plastic trim under the doors where it is the most noticeable.
Wednesday, however has come and gone though.

well i installed this carpet today(started anyway) the rear fit perfect in every way, the front is a little wierd. besides the fact the carpet was poorly made by the manufacturer. it went in ok, the portion near the door sill plates will needed to be trimmed, now i got the center console area all together. i installed the center console and it looks good. my problem is the rear where the back seats sit is not doing so well its bumpy and dosent conform to the floor. plus i switched to a one piece back seat and those little track pieces where the split seats used to ride are preventing the carpet from sitting right. i plan on cutting them off with a dremmel since i no longer use them. from the factory the carpet was cut to accept the back lower seat mounting bracket, and im very very wiery of cutting the new carpet to accomadate this.Well saturday ill go buy some sand bags and place them down and continue to trim and install some interior pieces. what does everyone think?
It's normal to have to cut and make your own holes in new carpet. It lets the carpet fit in all cars thats it is made for, no matter what options your particular car came with (or what you have taken out and no longer need holes, ie. your split rear seat). You make the holes for what your car has, or don't cut holes for what you car doesn't have.

thats awesome to know, thanks for the info, that makes life easier to drill them out, now i dont have to go up the bumfock mountain with my jeep and borrow my friends dremmel, haha, ill let you know how it went
that stupid rear seat piece, i drilled out the 4 spot welds and made four nice holes in the driveshaft tunnel, and i creeped very slowly and carefully on the drill,, fock it, liquid nail sealed it. never drive it in the rain anyway
I just wanna thank everybody for thier ideas and hints very much appreciated,, i have the carpet in and pretty much have the entire front cab area trimmed back up. it looks ok, there are a few bunched up areas near the ds tunnel, but im not sure i think even the rear seats with cover and compress them. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP

it takes time, i've done 9 cars so far and now i've got it down to only a few hours. the trimming takes the longest.
