carberated on 3rd gen?
carberated on 3rd gen?
Ok guys Im am allmost done building my 406 motor and now all I need is a car for it. I was think of a 88' z28 or earlier. Now if I was to get one my motor is carberated, so would I do away with the tbi. If so how hard is it to hook up throttle linkage. Also will will I need to run a cowl hood for clearance all help would be appreciated.
You can fit a Performer RPM intake and a 750cfm Edelbrock under the stock hood. I should know, that's what I'm running. You'll need a coil-in-cap style HEI distributor....the wiring is pretty simple. Tie back any TBI wires you don't need and run power and tach signal wires to the distrib.
I swapped a carburated motor (with eddie intake and carb) into my firebird, and everything fit fine under the stock hood.
The linkage was a snap after I got the edelbrock adapter... needed an HEI distributor, and she ran fine.
The 400 should be fine as a friend of mine has one in his firebird, but you may have problems... a cowl hood's pretty cheap, and looks quite nice on the thirdgen camaro's anyways.
Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Once again using DUKE's car as an example
He's running a Vic Jr. Edelbrock Intake with a Demon 750 carb and it fits under his stock RS hood. With an Inch of clearance I think he even said! He has a Drop base which is probably a 2.5" drop. Fits around the bowls nicely and everything. Goodluck.
