if TBI was an advanced carb, they why do they do so poorly with preformance WITHOUT massive mods? i dont know about TPI having anything to do with crossfire... you know i totally agree that carbs and TBIs look similar, take a carb over both of the others though

What year are these cars? if the carbed one is an 88 or newer than I dont think you will pass New Jersey smog. Are NJ smog checks similar to CA smog checks?

Marc 85Z28: Spoken like a true carb owner. I can offer the exact same opinion of fuel injection that you do about carb. For someone like me who has worked with nothing but fuel injection, tuning a carb would be as difficult for me as tuning a fuel injection is for you. So its a toss up as to which is better. It depends on your background and what you are used to. Carbs are simpler, but TPI is more user friendly, the computer does all the adjusting for weather and cold starts for you.

I am more familiar with the carb setup in these cars, which should be expected as I've owned one for almost 8 years now. But I have worked on several TPI cars and have had nothing but bad experiences with all. Specifically sensor and fuel pump issues

I really don't want to turn this thread into another carb vs TPI debate so I'll stop there

Besides the EPA, I think it boils down to a comfort issue. I was immersed in FI when I owned a car and don't know much about carbs so I avoid them. Joe Blow has been around carbs all his life so he is avioding FI because he does not know the significance of the outputs the ECM gives out.

They all have their plusses and minusses. You find carbs easier to tune because you have been around them all your life. I find FI easier to tune because I have been working with them and understand what I am seeing on the screen.
