Carb is simple and cheaper. TPI is more flexible in many ways, gives better gas mileage and emissions, and some say has better potential. I hope that answers your question adequately. If not, I'll be more specific.

best hp/$$ ratio is going to be a carb. I went from TPI to carb. Mostyly because I'm shooting for consistency for bracket racing, but also it's cheaper. It all depends on what you want to do with the car.

Re: Carb Or Tpi?

from what i've collected tpi will hit the wall at about 4500 rpms and a carb setup will let it spin higher depending on the manifold.
if you really wanted EFI i would look at an aftermarket manifold, like an HSR.

Another vote for the Holley Stealth Ram. It has been shown to add 63hp over the stock TPI on an L98.

Re: Carb Or Tpi?

will the vortec heads match up to holley stealth ram intake? And if my rings are a little worn how far should I bore it?

(don't wanna get ripped off at the machine shop, not many to choose from on an Island!)

Re: Carb Or Tpi?

no, you'll need a base made for the Voretcs. Not sure if Holley has made one that fits yet though I know they were supposed to work on one.

Hate to say it, but you're gonna have to take that thing to a machine shop if you want it bored. I doubt you have a boring bar at your house Not all machine shops are rip off's. It may seem like it, but that kind of work is time consuming and thus expensive. I could do you up a nice shortblock if you want to pay the freight to/from HI

Re: Carb Or Tpi?

Yep, holley's come up with a vortec-style stealthram. I too recommend the stealthram. It'll allow you to keep the benefits of fuel injection as well as allow the motor to breath well beyond where the stock TPI would fall down. The claimed horsepower is indeed 63 on an L98. A damn good deal for ~$500 worth of intake.
