well if the cars going to stay on the street, the TPI intake works great for gobs of torque. But if your just interested in doing the swap, simply use the TPI, but you could opt for a stealth ram, for 500$, a new carb and intake, would come to roughly the same cost, so the stealth ram would easily fit the bill. The tpi intake isn't crummy, its simply designed for a motor with less cubes. Alot of people forget that it was designed for use on the 305, and when gm saw that it could still be used on the 350, they used it, because they didn't have enough time to engineer an entire new intake to make more top end on the 350's. But if one was to build a high compression 302 with aluminum heads, similar to the ones offered in the first gen camaros, a tpi intake would kick some ***, this is a project I may try out in the future.

TPI has been great for trucks which don't rev up much to the 5000 RPM region. It is also good for when you drive it as a daily driver in 4 seasons where a carb that is tuned to the max in the summer might not be as good in the winter at 20 below without another tuning.

OK, it is crummy with respect to other intake systems for the 350 or better. I am not that sure it is really good for the 305 either. Engine is still an air pump. Gotta get the air in (intakes) and get the air out (exhaust) to make power.

He'll still need everything from a TPI setup if he goes with the Stealth Ram.

actually all he would need, is the throttle body. The stealth ram shares nothing else with the tpi intake. You cannot use the fuel rails or regulator from the tpi on the hsr. The only other thing you need from the tpi aside from the tb would be the injectors.

He'll need the ECM, harness, all sensors, distributor, relays.

Aklim is right. All you are doing is spending money to lose power. Why not convert a carb intake to FI???

Its really not as bad as it may seem, but it would be a nice swap, and certainly not that messy, I mean you could do it with a little work, but not so much that you would mess up alot of stuff. An lt1 or ls1 swap would be alot of work, even for experienced guys, however the after market supports all of these swaps, and they could be done in any vehicle for a price.
what was this I mentioned earlier? You must have missed that portion of the thread.
