Carb cleaner?

i have a 86 camaro z28, 305 v8.. i recently put bran new spark plugs on it and it ran alot better.. i used to touch the gas and it would studder then would rip.. now it rips alot faster.. but seems to me that when i put my foot down while in 1st gear it doesn;t take off fast.. i was just wondering if there is a chemical i can get... in canada.. that will clean the carb out.. also ive never taken apart the carb before so im a little shy to touch it as it goes in for bran new paint in a week.. and i have to drive it there.. any help would be great

Re: Carb cleaner?

Why not try carb cleaner like you suggested? That might work. I cant say that I really know what your problem is other than it might have the normal carb-buildup so common on carbs

Re: Carb cleaner?

there are a few ways to clean out carbon build up.

one you can buy the gm top engine cleaner its about 6-10 bucks(US)
2 you can use sea foam its the same thing get it at napa or any parts store thats decent.
with these the directions differ but regard less add it with the engine runnin for the gm one add the whole thing into the throttle body with the engine running youll have to spark the throttle to keep it from stalling after its all in there let it die or shut it off than let it sit for about 15 minutes i believe and than start it up and run it HARD youll be getting some extreme exhaust smoke like a never ending burnout kinda cool.
as for the sea foam add about a 3rd of it it says in the same manner than let it die/shut it off than let it sit for 5 or so minutes i believe than proceed with the hard running.
another way is to add a little bit of water in the same manner not a lot but a bit i dont have an exact measurement for this one sorry.

another thing you can do this isnt for carb probs but for valves.
if you suspect sticking valves you can pour about 4 ounces of trans fluid into the throttle body for tuneports throug an intake vaccume hose. the fluid will clean off any varnish in the cylindars/heads.
trans fluid is a very gould cleaner due to the high detergent count in it,
one other thing you can do there are chemicals called carb and choke cleaner you can get this and with the engine off spray it into the cab in the first throttle plate (the skinny one) make sure to get it onto the accelerator pumps under that plate so you have to open it and than take a plastic brissle brush and scrub away ittl clean off a lot of the crap on them.

Actually I have heard that running a higher octane to "clean it out" is just a myth but I am not positive.
