Okay, I have an 89 IROC 350 automatic. Went to go start it after lunch today and nothing, nadda, zilch. Battery fine, full power windows, lights, etc. No clicking no nothing, just dead silent when I turn the key. Seemed almost like the alarm kill switch is activated or something, but I turned the alarm on and off a few times, but still nothing.

I have noticed in the past several days the starter seems to have been getting a little slower at turning the engine and it started sounding kinda rough. Do you just think it's time for a new starter? man, how often do these things go out? I think it was not even a year ago that I replaced it. maybe it's those cheapy Autozone starters I'm getting... Any help would be appreciated.

 

Sounds like a starter to me. Try tapping with a hammer if you need to get it home or whatever. Sometimes that will kick over enough to start it. I went though my share of autozone starters before I spent the cash on good one from a local supplier

 

took it to autozone, it was completely dead, failed all tests. Good thing is it had a lifetime warranty!!

 

So it was the starter...
Its pretty common for them to go out on the 3rd gens but usualy youll get a nice clicking noise the first few times you try to start it and then it will finally turn over before it just goes compleetely dead

 

well that sucks. but lifetime warrantys are cool.
