Can you put Vortech heads on a 305?
I was just curious to know if you could put the Vortech Heads and the Scoggin Dickey TPI baseplate on an LB9. Anyone ever done it or seen it?
You CAN, as in they'll bolt right on and work fine. But if I remember correctly, it's not that good of an idea unless you plan on a 350+ later down the road becayse a lot of guys mill it down for a 305 but don't for a 350. Something about compression, or shrouding or something. I'll check TGO later for you.

Vortecs on a 305...
Car Craft ran a set of Vortec heads on an 80,000 mile junkyard LG4 305 a few years back. This article is what really started to generate interest in the Vortec heads. They had to mill the heads to bring the compression back up, as the stock 305 has 58cc chambers and the Vortecs have 64, but the power increase was unreal. The engine went from something like 145HP stock to 325HP with the Vortecs and a Comp XE268 cam. Shocked the crap out of the magazine editors.
I run a ported set of Vortecs on a .060"-over 400 in my '77 Z/28, and I'm extremely happy with the performance. Those heads are something else.
