Can you get paint codes from the VIN?

Hi, i was wondering where you can get the original paint codes for a car. Can you get it from the VIN? or is there a place where it is stamped somewhere? I have a '83 Z28

thanks

If it's still the same in 1983, which I think it is, there's a sticker on the inside of the door. Like where it meets the body. That'll tell you.

If you don't have your RPO sticker in your console or on its' lid then there is another way if not.You can get a printout of the window sticker(the paper that was on the driver window when the car was new) at th egm dealership parts department.I believe that all you have to give the guy at the counter your vin # and maybe your title or proof of registration. You should see the paint code there.
