go here to see some pics of my system. pic 0011 shows the lowest point. thats a drop light under the lowest point while the car is sitting on the ground. thats about 5" I think. I now have bullet mufflers instead of the cheapy turbo mufflers. yes, they are ALOT louder. I didnt use spipes, I took the reducers that came w/my hedman headers, only used the flange portion. then I had some 2.5k" pipes expanded to fit the inside of the flanges and then bolted the flanges to the headers loosely. slipped the expanded ends of the pipe into the flange/collectors and pointed the pipe under the tranny crossmember. so instead of it being bent, it is welded in at an angle. then, I cut it off under the crossmember at a right angle to the ground (pretty much same angle as collectors). then the exh. shop bent the pipes a little to
match from the mufflers to there. I also dented the pipe alittle directly under the crossmember so I could tuck the pipes as close to the floors as possible. for the hangers I drilled a hole on ea. side behind/under the rear seat and installed a bolt about 1.5" long and a nut on the outside of the floorpan. this is the stud I use to bolt the straps/hangers to. it makes it real easy to removbe the exh. for what ever reason. just unbolt the collectors and sit the collectors on the ground. then move to the back and undo the nut from ea. side of the hanger.
as for the susp. on my car, its the stock Iroc springs allaround and I have removed alot of weight from the car. removed the A/C, power steering, front swaybar, and ofcourse all the emisions crap. I have alum. heads and waterpump w/an LT1 starter(note: I used a small diam. flexplate from summit and it bolted right up)

thats allright. we cant all be tech.s
anyways, true dual exh. is two mufflers and two exh. pipes. so instead of the two sides of the exh. coming together into one pipe and one muffler, they stay seperate. its free'er flowing and it has a better sound. IMHO plus, if your running alot of horse power, the stock-type system is restrictive to some degree.

Just keep in mind, a 3" cat-back exhaust with a high flow cat will flow about as good as you would ever need. With the right headers and intake your motor will breathe just fine without true duals.
Also, you have smog where you live, don't plan on passing anytime soon, you'll fail the visual instantly. No cats and duals are illegal on these cars. And besides, even if you did weld in the cats, what the hell is the point right? True duals are supposed to be the free-flow, non pollution controlled alternative. Why mess with welding that crap on, Just stick to a cat-back, 3" is awesome, MADE for your car, you will be happier in the long run and will save you time and $$$. Thats just my .02 cents, not that anyone asked

I disconnected the exhaust at the y-pipeand made 3 runs. Replaced the y-pipe and made 3 runs. No significant diff. I kept the pipes on the car and the cat in the car to keep weight constant. With an auto tranny I am pretty consistant. Running one of LPE's 383 which are supposed to make around 450 ft/lbs of torque.

If you go with a supercharger and nitrous you could try a 4 in mufflex system.

yes, true duals arent for everyone. if your 13's or slower, prolly wont make that much diff. in power from a GOOD catback. maybe 10-20 HP Id assume. but like I said, the sound is important to me too, and you just cant duplicat it w/a single.
so you disconnected it at the ypipe, but you forgot the most restrictive part, the ypipe itself.
there will be people that dont like duals and some that do. for me it has to be duals. I was just showing you that it can be done w/o necesarrily giving up all your street ground clearance.

AKLIM, what times are you running w/that 383? Just curious.

Hey Fast3rdGen, I shouldn't have called that a cheap home job, I meant to say inexpensive.
