Can a manual lock replace a Hatch Motor in a 89???
Hi...Can you place a manual hatch lock instead of a electrical one in a 89 camaro? I just replaced mine and the latch doesnt get pulled down by the motor...or could the motor be bad?

ill try it was a while ago that i did this but ill try and no i dont have pictures sorry
there should be 4 big black bolts with 4 big washers on them if you remove them the whole thing should come off id go out and look now but its night time.
the other thing you can do is drill holes through the unit you have on your car but make sure that it is in the properly latched position than take some screws and screw them into the holes you made to keep it in place that is how mine is secured. but i assure you they are interchangeable is isnt cost effective to not have them be thats why so many parts can be gotten from various cars and such.

the manual latch you would install in its place it should be able to mount than.
i hope im understanding you it seems like what your saying is that the motor is busted and the hatch is able to half opn and when you go over bumps it bounces up and than shuts
am i right

honestly your best bet is just remove it and see if it would mount it is possible that the maual latch may require its own mounting plate although i dont remember needing one. and if it does go with plan b drill hole with the hatch locked and closed and screw a few screws in place to hold the latch stationairy that way the trunk stays closed
