StealthElephant picked up a few mph/tenths when he went to an LT1 cam. Definite improvement, especially considering you can get one for around $25

Do Vortec heads work? I don't know if they would with the smaller (3.7XX") bore of a 305? That might be something to look in to. The only "305" heads I know of are the World Products S/R Torquers. Good luck

350 heads are the same as 305 heads (fit wise, performance and port size etc are a diff story)

the .4 improvement looks good, and im sure that the car could probably do a little better if my EGR wasn't screwed to hell (or something, when i drive over 55MPH i backfire like a **** ever since the cam swap, 350 is coming before summer ends, so screw the TPI)

Still....I wasn't driving for the 15.1 run...when I ran 15.5 bone stock it was my 3rd and final run of the night, that was also the 3rd time i had ever launched my car at a track....for the 15.1 run someone else was driving, someone with alot more experience (im 18, hes 33) i have no idea how much was the new cam and how much was the driver....

You MUST port and polish those Monte SS heads or you will be unhappy with the results. Follow the link at the end of my sig.

The only problem with an LT1 cam, and I've recommended them many times myself, is that the ones on eBay are used and you don't know if the one you buy has problems on the bearing-load surfaces.

If you go here http://www.competitionproducts.com/page51.html you will see a roller cam for $49.99 brand new that GM uses on their stock 383 engines. Its specs are perfect for a 305

If your engine already has roller lifters just reuse them. They are usually good for a very long time. If your block isn't made for a roller setup then forget about a roller cam. It just gets too expensive.

i dont wunna port them cause i cant afford a new valve train, ive got 500 bux to get this thing running.....but i also wunna do my cam and maybe start on my exhaust.......plus i need to do some minor restoration so thats out of the question......i COULD go ahead and buy the whole motor off the guy cause hes turnin it into a big block drag car....would i just be better off buying the whole thing from him?

if i do get the engine, what what cam and stuff should i get for it?

Porting your own heads doesn't mean you have to replace the valves. Look at the link I told you of.

If your engine is from an 88 Camaro then it is roller equipped.

I don't know anything about this guy or his motor so I can't help you there.

Same deal

Sitting Bull: You said "GM uses on their stock 383 engines." You mean crate engines?

Yes, I think so. I've seen some 383s around that use flat tappet cams so I'm not positive what GM has to do with that. But this is the cam used in the roller block 383s. Whether it is crate or perhaps used in some trucks, I'm not sure.
