Hey fellas, just lookin for some input. I thought a cam swap might be a nice project, and I wanted to know what kind of gains i can expect from one of these types of cams? I have heard good things about Isky too! Any info welcome. thanks guys

LT1 would match up nicely with the stock setup but little gains. Probably high 13's in the 1/4 mile. You could use the stock chip with this cam but I'm a preacher of these cars that when you do a cam change do the chip too. I think you could use the stock springs if you stay with 1.5:1 roller rockers.

The LT4 is a nice cam but you'd want to have new heads (AFR190's) and a new intake perferably a Holley Stealh Ram. Also the HSR you'd need bigger injectors and a new chip program. Forgot the lift to this cam so I don't know if you need different springs in the heads (stock). The LT4 could easily put you in the 12's.

It all depends on what you want and how much money you want to spend or what you want to do later. You could use the LT4 cam with the stock setup (but a new chip prgram) and new springs on the heads but you won't get the full benefit of the cam till you port the heads or get new ones and a new intake.

Personally I like the LT4 cam, it is simular to my zz9 cam just cheaper and couple degrees more agressive.

Cood Luck!

I have very little experience with L98's but are you saying adding just an LT4 cam would put you in the 12's? Or did you mean the cam and heads? I thought L98's were stock 14 second cars.

They are, mine ran 14.3 bone stock. Anyway, basically shes my daily driver and I was just kickin around the idea of a nicer cam. I would like to keep some kind of fuel economy going here. So I think the LT4 might not be that good a cam for me. Also I had plans of building another blower motor for the car sometime in the next year or two, but for now I was thinking maybe a Scoggin Dickey base manifold, ported plenum, an slp runners, with vortec heads. Not trying to get really crazy with this setup right now. I just want a little more power, some solid 13's and enough to give some of the newer cars out there a decent run. Thanks guys

If I were you, I'd be looking to change those rear gears before considering a cam change. Maybe look for a set of 3.27's out of a 9-bolt from a wrecked L98 car.

Nah 2.77's are great!
You want to wake it up get a 2500 stall.
Time in my sig was with a bad vacuum leak, bad MAF and the tranny was going, bad 2-3 shift.
I hoping for better times this year closer to 13.5 or 13.4.

u could use an LT4 cam without changing heads IMO. the LT4 isnt too much bigger. just toss in a LT1 cam, u can get them for under $40 most of the time. youll pick up a two or 3 tenths with it im sure. and for $40, that is well worth it IMO

Hey Will!

Long time no talk! So you got rid of the 86, eh? Sounds like you're happier with this new Iroc. Why don't you port and polish your L98 heads? They can be made to run with the Vortecs and it ain't hard either. You just need a good 25 to 30 hrs.

It will save you a fortune!

Check out the link at the end of my sig.

hey man, good to hear from you..... I did not plan on getting rid of the 86, she was rearended about 3 months back and that was that. Car rns and its fixable, but I did not have the time or the money, and I got paid for it, so I just figured get the 3rd gen I always wanted. Shes still sitting in my driveway, hopeflly I can sell the car off cheap instead of having to part her.

But anyway, I have big plans for the car later on in the future. But I might pick up a spare set of L98 vette heads? and go from there? What do you think

If you can get the L98 heads for cheap, like $50 or so. Otherwise just get a set of 305 heads ($30 at the wrecker) and have the intake valves enlarged to 1.94". That will make them virtually identical to L98s.

Read through the link I showed you. It has all the answers you are looking for.

Well I am going on the cheap here. I have a used ZZ3 cam, I'm buying some new valve seals and springs, and I have a set of LT1 injectors. I am doing this swap along with a set of headers and a higher stall.

Anyone know if the valveguides will clear the .510 lift of the cam without machine work?

No, .510 is too much.

Aren't LT1 injectors 24#ers?
