A/C and SMOG pump DELETE PULLEYS

I am removing the smog pump and a/c from my car to free up some weight and space.
Do I need to buy the a/c delete pulley and the smog pump delete pulley?
I can get them both for $100
is this the right way to do it?
thanks everyone!!

I had to watch the rotation of the water pump and the accessories but all I required was a shorter belt. Save your money and don't buy the pulleys.

You need a shorter one. Not sure but you would take the current setup and see how it routes and which direction the devices spin. Reroute the belt after you take the stuff off and figure out how much shorter you need it to be. This setup is sold to make money and if you are afraid of trying it out.

Aklim,

What belt did you use, and what motor did you take the pulleys off of? This will at least give an idea of what i need. I know i can measure it, but the people at the counter RARELY now belt lenghts unless you tell them what "car" it is supposedly for.

lol, Aklim you are right.. I am afraid of trying the no pulley idea, because I was afraid something might spin the wrong way or not enough. But I will draw a picture and find out how to re route it so i could still turn everything the right way.
thanks AKlim, you probably saved me a hundred bucks

I have the opertunity to buy a brand new A/C delete pulley for $20 bucks thats the only reason I'm buying one. Otherwise when I removed the smog pump, I bought a shorter belt.

I know on my 88 serpentine setup that I can remove the smog and use a smaller belt. Haven't really looked at the A/C yet, but I will since it comes off when it stops working.
There is a post on thirdgen.org of different setups, one of them had alternator, WP, and powersteering and looked really cool since the alt was mounted low so no accessories showed from the top of the motor.

Pulley adds one more thing that can go wrong and one more thing to get in my way when I am trying to reach this that or the other. Not like we have gobs of room in the engine bay, is it?

I figured out how to remove the smog pump without getting a smog pump delete pulley, but there seems to be no way to remove the a/c without the delete pulley because of the position of the tensioner. If anyone has removed the a/c without the delete pulley then could you please give me a description or a link to a pic of it removed.
thanks everyone!

smog pump removal

HEY EVERYONE...
I recently had my bypassed and gutted smog pump bearings lock up...have to replace or remove.I have an 88 305 tpi serpintine with ac setup..
when i removed the smog pump i tried a shorter belt. When i released the tension..it pinched the belt in between the ac and other pullys. I hd to buy a new smog pump for 60 bucks.I cant wait till monday for a used one from one yard. And i dont even use it. Plus the old pully bolts wouldnt work on the new pump so i spent half the day looking for the right bolts. {THey were 8 mm by the way it any one needs to know}. But if i could still remove it please share the info. I would love to free up the horsies.
Thanks again..
