A/C removal !! ??

I want to remove my a/c, it doesn't work right and my windows work fine. I want to rid some weight and add some space under the hood.
What exactly do i need to do to remove it? And is there any special tools or parts needed? thanks

I am in NJ too, it was pretty hot , but i don't care about a/c, mine takes frion which is going to cost alot, I can just remove it to free up some horsepower.

Thats true. You gain more from the weight saving than freeing up hp

how much HP would it add, like 5-10?
also do they make an underdrive delete pulley, or it doesn't matter because there is no a/c? I figures a smaller delete pulley would help, thanks!

yeah5-10 at the crank is not unheard of.I would order the gm a/c delete pulley then get under drive pulleys for the crank an alt. to play it safe.

good thing you mentioned the underdrive pulleys...I too live in Jersey but don't use the A/C now I'm thinking about freeing up on the weight and hp...but the a/c delete pulley is a must

Well at idle is were the problems are with under drive pulley's.Since they change the ratio's around, you have less charging power at idle with the alt pulley so I guess its the same for the water pump.I would leave the pump pulley alone.
There are alot of tricks for your car to get it to go faster.you would be surpriesed at how fast I got my 92 to go at the track with very basic stuff.

Just removed all the a/c stuff from my '87 and weighed it all. It came to 18lb in total. Removing the air pump stuff netted another 8lb.

Did you remove the EVAP coil? If so, what did you use to plug the holes?

The smog pump. Looks like an alternator, belt driven, blows air into the exhaust manifold and cat. Dont think you can take them off over there........or can you!
