Question Busted Gas tank

Yup, The neck of my gas tank broke clean off at the actual tank, its still 'in' the tank, and can be used to fill up, but the neck wobbles, and leaks when the car is parked on a hill....
Its pretty much how it should be, nothings sagging, nothings wierd, its just broke in a clean circle around where the neck goes into the tank.

What do I do?

You'll have to buy a new one. I also need one so Ive been checking this very subject out, here's what Ive found. The dealer (here in Minnesota) wants $415.73 for a new tank for a 92 Camaro (dont know what you have) and the part number is 10269091. If you know someone at the dealer who can get it for you, your cost is 311.80. I called Checker auto (Kragen in CA I think) and they want $202.00 for a tank, with a 2 week wait for it. I also asked about the 1LE baffled tank option and both the dealer and Checker had no option listed for a baffled tank or 1LE option. Hope that helps.

Damn, I was sorta wanting a quick fix....
The car isn't really worth that right now, but I don't want to blow up half way down the highway....

There is some puddy junk you can put around the neck. It will seal the leak and make it solid agian. I had to do this to mine about 4 months ago and it's still holding up.

Goto www.rockauto.com, they have a cheap tank for around $130 I think, and 2 day shipping is like 30 bucks. Thats the one I'll be purchasing soon.

There might be a cheap fix, besides the putty. When replacing gas tanks on these cars it's difficult to get the tank out fo the car without bending the filler neck, sometimes breaking it. I have heard some mechanics actually cut off the neck and install a flexible piece of tubing down near where the neck meets the tank. I'm not sure if this is an aftermarket piece or where to buy it, but I bet if you ask around you find someone who can clue you in on it. Good luck.

naw, I did that to my tank and you need to do it about half way up the neck. his broke at the tank flush. and all yo do id cut in half, then add a piece of 2.5" rubber line that fuel compatable.

but I have a tank thats in perfect shape for $50 plus shipping. email me your shipping address and I'll see how much shipping will be. chris

Unfortunatly I must wait until the first to do anything, and even then its a maybe, unfortunatly I'm a student on a tight budget, I will look for the puddy stuff, and if all else fails, I can just pull one from the junk yards around town.

There seems to be a black thin 'seal' that is on the neck right now, I figure thats what you are all talking about, but it wasn't put on right, and its chipping away really easy, I figure thats why it broke.

Does ayone have any urls to gas tank articles, so I can learn abit more before I rip my heat shield and muffler, and pretty much the back part of my car off?
I sorta need to know what to expect.

Thanks ^_^
