burning a chip

I have an 89 camaro with a 383 stroker that breaths with the Lingenfelter super ram. It still has the factory chip and i was wondering how much performance could i expect from a custom chip. Is it worth the 500 dollar cost or could my money be better spent elsewere?

Most places like www.fastchip.com or www.fastproms.com are like $350 plus shipping.

Mine works great from Fastchip.

If you had SD, it wouldn't probably run for crap, at least, worse than what you have now. Been there, done that. That is why I told you to go stick with MAF.

www.fasterproms.com does it for $350 and if you need to have it redone in future, it is $150. Fasterproms will have a Diacom setup where you can borrow the program and cable and take readings. Email them the readings and they send you another chip. This process is repeated till you get it dialed in as good as it gets. Don't buy the hyperjunk. As long as they do readings and make adjustments, go for it. If they tell you they can do it just with your relling them how your car is setup, run.

Yes it is worth the cost, but dont go mail order. Find a local friend who will tune your car in front of you. Its quicker, and you dont have the hassle of sending the chip back and forth, paying for the shipping each time.

Dont be dissing on the speed density. He'll have to upgrade to it if he maxes out his MAF sensor like everyone else does.

Fasterproms mailed me the chip at their expense and what they did was send me a new one each time so there is no downtime except the car doesn't run perfect till they are done. When it is all done, I sent them back the chips that I didn't use and the Diacom software and cable and a check for the work.

With Fastchip I just paid like $15 extra for shipping, & they shipped me a chip I still have my stock chip & my hypertech chip.

The car so far doesnt need tuned & its ready to go down to the track as soon as my husband finishes putting in a sensor & figuring out where the water leak is coming from. ( I think its the hose around the stathousing)

OH Aklim just got an email from husband he said it was still looking like he is coming home on time which means Weds Morning.

Why don't you take off the lines and send it to me. He'll never notice that it is gone. Trust me on that.

He had to finish installing my HRS system before he could buy the seats he wanted for his truck.

Get Fasterproms to do you a chip using a diacom. That's the only way to get it right. I had 2 different companies burn me chips (and one of them do it 3 times) without success. And that was when i had fairly basic mods like ported vette heads, small hr cam, 24lb injectors and an aftermarket LTR intake.
Since i had a chip done with a diacom, the car runs sooooo much better, gets better mileage, and has way more power.

I'd definately recommend a chip.

Kevin, might wanna clarify that maxing out the MAF at part throttleis where people run into problems. Lots of people with a mildly modded motor max the MAF under wide open throttle quite easily. Thats where the confusion comes in.

Anyway, you could always look to tuning yourself.
