you've got high hopes
nothing wrong with ambition
start with a budget and get the most horsepower around the budget
do searches, u'll wont a 4 bolt main block, you need to decide on a cam and heads that will work well with nitrous

the search button helps alot

Care to post some specs? Getting 650-700HP out of a 383" engine naturally aspirated would require an EXTREMELY RADICAL setup, RPMs north of 8000, and would most likely cost more than 10 Gs... Most competent big name engine builders need 70 more cubes to attain those power levels.

Here's a link to a proven 668hp/550lb-ft 406 cube engine buildup. Monty is a local Michigan racer and this was one of his first engines that he ran 9.80's on motor and 9.11's on a 250 shot in a 2nd gen Z28. It's pretty much off the shelf stuff.

I didn't say it couldn't be done. And that engine is 20 cubes larger (bigger bore helps with HP numbers), 14:1 compression, LARGE solid roller cam, and topped with a Dominator - pretty much like I said.

No offense but its not going to happen. Sure its very possible but if you need to ask people where to start on your engine build and you want that much power NA then theres the first problem.

Yeah I agree to the guys on this one, 700hp is damn hard to make w/o a power adder.

Shouldent be very hard to tap that number with NOS though. Maybe you want something solid that you can spay the heck out of? Forged bottom end, 4 bolt. Then some good heads like AFRs and a fogger and whalaa!

The absolute best advise I think anyone can get for ANY build is PLAN WHAT YOU WANT FIRST! Oh yeah thats the ticket right there. At the same time you have to have the disipline to stick to the build too. It always seems easy to just buy a bigger cam or a little different manifold.

Try this:
Eagle rotating assy-$1900
Dart block-$1800
AFR Eliminators-$1400
Intake and Carb-$650
Cam and lifters-$300
Headers-$300+
Distributor-$250
Coil and Wires-$80
MSD Box-$300
Nitrous system-$500
Gaskets-$250
Oil system-$250
Studs-$200
Machine work-$300

So at the end of it all your looking at $8500 just to get started in the engine!

Also I recomend you save the money first, it sucks bad to have half an engine built and no money to finish it. Also you dont know if you may have an emergency that requires some cash and if your spending all your dough on parts every payday your probably broke and will have to take a hit by selling some parts.

505 forgot to mention that you should double your budget before you start just to save a couple headaches and actually finish by the time you want to finish.

And nobody mentioned calling Shaffirof and ordering an engine. http://www.ultrastreet.net/ Pick and choose, pay and recieve.

It is by all means possible to do that kind of buildup and achieve those power goals. However, as mentioned above, you will sacrifice just about any street manners that the car will have. If you are okay with having a car that is mainly for track duty, then by all means go for it. If you want something more tame, then I would build a mild heads/cam motor and try to squeeze out 450-500hp and throw a decent amount of nitrous on top of that.

This entire thread doesn't make sense from the start because he's not letting anyone know WHY he wants however much power. You have some people screaming IMPOSSIBLE, others are saying you can do this and that but it's probably best if crusher135 did some searches to gain info on what an SBC is because he does not know where a good place to start is.

We all know 15 grand can have 1000hp delivered to your door, in many forms of engine and sometimes even with a damn warranty.

Oh, and if you can make the amount of power that you need, why are you asking how to do it? There are easier ways to start a conversation online. You can type stuff such as: "What's the best catback", "What's better, Ford or Chevy?", "Cereal rules, but why?"

He's not making that kind of power naturally aspirated, like you stated was a requirement for your engine. Why not ask him to build you a 900HP naturally aspirated SBC?

cause thats 15 g's and i only want to spend 10-11 on the engine itself, more money is going into the car
