building a sbc
I see that you are from Minnesota and am kind of curious to if you post over at www.mnfbody.com at all? If not you should take a look over there. A lot of the guys in the club have built engines before and can give you some amazing advise. I am also in the process of building a motor and I am going to be looking into a few books How to Build Max Performance Chevy Small Blocks on a Budget and How to Build a Small-Block Chevy for the Street are the 2 that I am going to be looking over as well as consulting a ton of my friends. Good luck.
I have some good advice for you.
My car is basically a 383 stroker except smaller bore (3.765). It has a 3.750 stroker crank so its pretty much the same thing. I built my engine over the summer with help from my dad, and trust me it was not an easy task.
Ok here goes:
1. You WILL need to do block clearancing: crank to block, rods to oil pan rail, rods to bottom of cylinder, rods to cam (and I only have .480 lift), rods to oil pan, and crank to oil pump (had to grind a little off the body of the oil pump).
2. You will need a SH*T LOAD of patience. Trust me
3. Me and my dad used an electric Dremel tool to do all of the clearancing except for the oil pan (we used a hammer and brass drift to bend that out).
If you have any other questions, Shoot me an E-mail.
I hope i was some help. See ya
