bow tie vortech heads
bow tie vortech heads
I own three f bodies 82 z28, 87 rs, and a 1997 ws6. I just wanted to know what u guys think of the new heads gm put out. thgey flow better than afr heads and are cheaper. plus they accept regular intake manifolds. I see a shortage soon. Im gonna put them on the 82, wish they had them for the genII engines. GM almost loves us. they will when they bring back the fbodies (both). by the way these heads made 610 hp on a forged 355 spinning at 7100 rpm. not ported
Re: bow tie vortech heads
I need dimensions on these heads. Vortecs don't accept "regular" manifolds. They require vortec manifolds. For Gen I motors, there aren't any factory heads that I can think of that really impress me unless you go 18*, 15*, or SB2. There are lots of aftermarket SBC heads available that outflow AFRs for less as well; their 227cc heads are the only ones that come close to the high end stuff Dart, ProLine, Brodix, and World Products puts out. 610 HP is nice on 355 cubic inches, but what kind of compression was that engine running, was it naturally aspirated HP, what type of camshaft, EFI or Carb'd, type of intake manifold, type of exhaust, all important factors that need to be known for making power
Re: bow tie vortech heads
these heads will accept both. they are a whole new casting than the old vortech heads. there are two versions a small runner 185 cc intake and 65cc and a larger port206 cc and 65 cc that will require large port sbc intakes since they have raised runners, both have 77cc exhaust ports . the valves are 2.00 and 1.55 inch. the deck surface is .045 inch thicker than the old l31 machined for 2/8 inch screw in studs and the valve springs can go .530 inch stock. prices are $499 for regular intake runners and $539 for the tall runners. the large port got max flow of 269.1 @.7 ,263.2@.6, and 257.2@.5 they flow well intakes are 167.@.7, 162.@.6, and 162.5@.5 pretty good overall.
Re: bow tie vortech heads
yeah that 355 had a huge cam, forged bottom end and all the trick parts build by top tech guys. they just added a back cut to the intake and an angle job to both. compression was @12:1 and ran 110 race gas. not a real street engine, but imagine with some bowl work a lil porting and some larger exhaust valves this head will breath easy, now lets make them hyperventilate. Oh yeah it was carbed (unaltered). these heads can go atleast 500 for a street car especially with efi.
