Hi. Sorry for the newb question...

I need to replace the axle/rear end in my 90 camaro.

I have located a used axle with 3.42 gears.

My shop guy says that I need a "Speedometer Adapter" to adjust for the difference in going from 2.73 to 3.42 gears.

Does anyone out there know where I can find this part?

It's called the drive and driven gears. Try your GM dealership as far as that goes. You could find the car it came out of and tell your dealership you have that car and what those gears are.

 

A speedometer shop can regear it for you ,and some trans shops can do it also.

 

if u never done gears befor dont try i whould pay someone if i where u.

 

I think he is swapping rear ends and wanting the speedo to work. All that would take is a drive and driven gear swap. Take out the tailhousing and swap the drive gear and take the VSS out and swap the driven gear. 3.42 is a common ratio so you should be able to get the right gears. That or ask someone who has that ratio what the number of teeth are in each of those gears or what the color is.
