Best way to tow a third gen

Im going to have to tow the car to a shop now, no other option.

But what is the best way to tow this car? It doesnt seem like there is anything underneath in front to tie to.

Looks like I have a bad ECM. The whole car just goes haywire in everyway when trying to drive it (it doesnt even stay running now).

Call a flat deck tow truck.

Before I bought my car trailer I used to tow the car to the track. I fabricated some tow bar mounts through the fog light holes. It wasn't pretty but it worked.

There is no easy way to simply just hook a chain or rope onto a third gen and tow it.

If you are towing on something like a tow dollie the car should be backwards. The Rear tires on the Dollie.

But I agree on a flat bed would be lots better.

A rollback wrecker (or "flatbed") is the only way to go with a 3rd gen. A wheel lift wrecker or tow dolly is gonna angle the car too much and probably scrape the ground effects and tailpipes right off...not to mention the fact that posi rears dont like being towed. I also wouldn't put the car on a dolly backwards....the front ground effect is low enough as it is and if the front wheels aren't perfectly straight and locked in place the car will be all over the road.

the cost of a used ecm would be cheaper than the towing bill. if you really think thats the problem why not atleast try changing that out with another? they are very easy to change and can be done in any parking lot with any 5 dollar tool kit. they interchange with a bunch of gm vehicles so any salvage yard should have one on the shelf. just make sure to put your chip in the new ecm.

if you dont feel like messing with it id have to go for the flatbed as well.

I'd look around for a new ECM.

www.ThirdGenResource.com
www.HawksThirdGenParts.com
www.EBayMotors.com
www.ThirdGen.org
www.CamaroZ28.com

All the sites I can think of to look for one.

But if you insist on towing it--We rented a U-Haul trailer for the GTA. Worked great, up to speeds around 75. Cost ~$50 Pulled real nice.

I thought it was the EPROM that was different and that the ECM itself was the same.

yes each eprom is different for each engine and the ecm is shared with a bunch of other vehicles that gm made. i had to get one for my l98 and i think it came out of a cavalier, and only cost $35 bucks at a salvage yard. most yards can look up the crossreference on their computers. and even if theyve never had an l98 in their yard they will most likely have the right ecm.

Go to Thirdgen.org they have a chart that shows what cars got what ECMs. Anyone who thinks you need an L98 specific ECM does not know the system. The 7730 ECMs were common to many different GMs. Here's the link:
