Best mods for TPI 305 - whatcha guys got??
Best mods for TPI 305 - whatcha guys got??
This is not really a Camaro related question but I'm going to be swapping a TPI 305 into my 91 S10 Blazer(winter ride). I'm just wondering what the best mods for the money would be. I'm not looking for insane power, just something over the stock 4.3.
What year 305 TPI is it?
Headers and a full exhaust should help you out.
Also if you take your throttle body off, you'll notice a ridge behind each circular opening in the plenum. Remove the plenum and grind those off with a dremel tool. That will give you some more power.

its out of a 1985 Monte Carlo SS
I'm just wonding if its worth the money to put in a cam. It will be getting a rering kit so a cam will not be that much extra work

A cam would be a good idea to wake that 305 up
how much is all of this suppose to cost you?
sounds like it would be cheaper to just pick up a good used 350 tpi. alot more power and room for improvement without major investment. they respond alot better to cheap mods than the 305.

I would but I have 2 305 sitting around taking up space... I have a 350 but that will be going into my 91 Sonoma. I would be going with the 305 simply because it was free, a full TPI setup is cheap enough.
Headers are a must, and the little things help out when the bigger things like intake and exhaust are done right. I have a brand new extra BBK adjustable fuel pressure regulator for a tpi for sale if your interesed, i paid $59+ shipping, but its yours for $30. I can send a pic if u want.

I dont know If you are on MNFbody.com but I know that the member LT1pwrd85Z has got two 305TPI's complete that he is selling plus a 4L60(aka 700R4) FOR SALE. He is located right in Minneapolis near Lake street. Just thought I would let you know.
Now to answer your question, a new cam, headers, and low restriction exhaust will wake that puppy up real nice. Plus a TPIS air foil can help as well too. Also most TPI systems run rich from the factory, so if you bump up the timing just a bit it might give you a little more umph. That injection system has a lot of power off the line, but once you hit 4,000 rpms there is NOTHING. But Port Fuel Injection is a nicething to have despite some of the downfalls of the older technology.
Good luck man,
And check out MNFbody.com (I think that is what you referd to up in your original post) as there are some real smart techs that can probably give you some help.
Peace,
Erik
