So i put some bosch platinum tipped spark plugs on my 92 305 TPI and i got a chip from performance resource and my car backfires slightly whenever i get on the gas and then let off it real quick...like if im revving the motor at a light

any tips? also is it a good idea to advance my timing a little bit with that chip?

 

I have never had luck with bosch plugs in anything that wasn't specifically designed for them, try a different set of plugs

and have you checked your timing? the chip probably advances it pretty good, so if the base timing is too high, it would cause an over advanced position

and lastly, put the stock chip back in, and see if that fixes it

 

What type of performance chip??? Hypertech ?? I agree, a simple diagnostic test would to remove the chip and use the original. I purchased the hypertech chip and had problems with idle but never backfired. You may want to check the ignition module if the chip is not the problem or the plugs.

 

its from performance resource. good chip, i have been pleased. ill take her out this weekend and see if it backfires with the stock chip.

 

Get rid of the plugs anyway. JMHO
