are you pullin up on the line lock out to release it from park, the little T handle under the regular handle? this shifter locks into gears.

quite honestly, I always have problems when I reinstall the shifter without following the isntructions, as soon as I go over the instructions a secodn time it works out, make sure that you did things almost exactly as the instructions indicated.

Talking shifter

ok , well you have to adjust the cable while in 1st gear. loosen the cable, put the shifter into 1st, then adjust the tranny to 1st gear, and connect the cable, usually works everytime with no problems.

yeah and you have to make sure the "swivel" as tey call it is lined up and also make sure that the bracket is all the way against the shifter on the tranny and not on the bolt thread, and the swivel MUST be in the front hole in order to work, there were also some triggers you need to put on the console part of the shifter that I think may stop you from going out of reverse.
