axles on an 87 iroc 26 or 28
axles on an 87 iroc 26 or 28
didnt all 87 and prior iroc-z come with a 26 spline axel only or did some get 28 just wanna know so i can pick out my differential an auburn heavy duty no way my mildly modded 305 can blow that.
Get some punchuation and an Auburn Pro Series Posi and all will be well. Haven't broken mine yet. Make sure you have some sort of support for the end caps. I didn't and had cap walk so bad that on the driver side, when you install new bearings you have to clean the posi, dimple it and use some sort of sealing compound to make sure the bearing stays in place. Maybe next year I will install a Ford 9 in and solve the problem.
I believe all IROC's could be had with a 9-bolt as early as 87, I know I picked up a nice rear off an 87 iroc and its a BW 9-bolt. 88-90 saw pretty much strictly 9-bolts If I am not mistaken. 91-92 has the PBR's mounted on 10-bolts.

oh its defiantley a 10 bolt has 10 bolts and the same ****ty design all 10bolts had. aklim is this ok!!!!! and aklim your talking about my caps walkin off please explain? is this the thing that a stud gridle prevents im just so lost in even buying all the parts for my rebuild
1987: First year for the 9-bolt in the Camaro. It was used on all 350 cars and 305 TPI/5-speed with G92.
All 1987 10-bolt Camaros had 26-spline axles. 1988 and 1989 were both transition years: More 26-spline units in 1988 and more 28-spline in 1989. The only way to know for '88 & '89 is to count.

Look at this cover. If you look at the center beam, it has 2 bolts. These bolts have flat ends that push down on the end caps. The end caps hold the axel bearings which in turn holds down the differential. If you make enough power and beat on it, it might cause the end caps to move around "walk" and that would be bad for the bearings. These caps with the bolts hold down the caps to prevent walk.

It's called the TA Performance Cover/Girdle. That's what I've got. It's the same design basically as that Granatelli.
