Automatic shifter plates

Are they basically the same from from 82-89 and 90-92 (or whatever the year differences are)? Why are the later years discontinued?

By the way, how do you get the shift lefter OFF so that I can get this plate out? Does the little button on top just pop out (along with the spring)?

There were a few different models.

82-83 had a 3spd tranny and there for read P R N D 2 1

84 I think read P R N D 3 2 1

85-87 read P R N @ D 2 1

And then 88-89 was similar but had an indicator in red to tell which gear you were in
90-92 was the same as 88+ only difference was the yellow lettering.

I think thats all of em. Pontiac had some weird ones too. I need a replacement for my iroc, the indicator is busted and sometimes reads N when I am in OD

Hope that helps

To remove the Auto shift ****, locate the U-shaped clip on the front of the **** (facing the radio) and pull out. It is about the size of a paperclip wire. Then just pull up to remove. All 700R4 Shift Plates are the same except for color changes on the letters & numbers. P R N od D 2 1 , Early 82/83 models did not have the OD on them and were 3 speed.

Sweet thanks.
BTW why the hell did they go to yellow coloring? White looks so much more cleaner. I wonder if the white switches are identical to the yellow ones?

They just wanted something different. I guess they are more visible??? But yeah, if you have a pre 88 car though, its a little different removing the ****. You will need a snap ring tool to take the little clip out and then the **** will slide out. the other dude failed to mention that

The other dude can remove the shift **** without a big old snapring tool and I have 87 with Auto ****. I guess the directions were to hard for you without your tool box.

Thumbs down

I cannot believe my eyes. This crap is completely unacceptable. This is a well respected, family-oriented message board. Tou two, obviously, are not willing to acknowledge that.

Take this to email and out of the forum.
