anyone here to a hardtop to t-top swap?
anyone here to a hardtop to t-top swap?
was wondering if you did it yourself, or how much you paid to have it done, how the fit and finish went, and what you paid for the roof plus tops
dont even bother, the roof for a t-top and hard top are structurally different so there would be a lot of cutting, welding, trying to fab stuff up, and probably would come out less then perfect. Thats one of those deals where youre better off selling the car you have and buying a t-top car.
I know multiple 4th gen guys who've done the conversion and havve ~$3-400 in it. They've got the knowledge and tools so it came out well. Nothing for a first timer though. They cut into their roof, imagine screwing up
Do a search on the LT1 board. If you don't come up with much, try the Appearance board also.

They aren't like the 4th gens, where they are the same underneath, and it's a fairly easy swap?

. Coolnes factor makes up for the slight weight difference, and subframes solve the rigidity problem.
I would say you will pay about $350 for the roof, tops and headliner at a junkyard, then your windshield will most likely break in the process, thats another $150. Then your looking at probably about $800-$2000 depending on the quality of the job in labor. And you will need to add subfram connecters, another $300. For the cost of swapping you could buy a very nice camaro with t-tops.
I swapped the tops on my car. It is fairly simple, i had someone i know that works for a body shop and has done that sort of thing before helpwith the cutting so i knew it was right, he actually suggested doing it. I also bought a donor car from that same guy for 500, it was pretty much a parts car but i got all my money back when i sold the motor that was in it. The car is pretty much done now(well the bodywork is) and it looks good, you would never be able to tell unles you pulled interior panels out and saw the welds. Since i got my money back from selling that motor the only thing i am into the swap for is some body filer and my time. If you have any questions about it or want to see some pics( i have pics of it bein cut, my car with no roof on it, and the finished product) email me.
