The Z28 can have a 305 TPI V8 rated at either 205 HP or 230 HP depending on options, or the 350 TPI V8 rated at 245 HP. The RS will have a V6 rated at 140 HP or so, or the TBI V8 rated at 170 HP. The Z28 will have a better suspension setup, bigger sway bars, stiffer springs and shocks, etc.

Only interior difference will be the gauge cluster since the RS has a 110 and the Z28s should have the 145 mph speedo.

Don't forget, all RS's have an open rear while the Z28s have posi. I have been told, but have never seen proof, that the 700R4s differ between the two with the Z getting stronger internals.

And just as an extra.... Don't forget that in 91 and 92 there were some RS's that came with the B4C option code. This meant that they came with a TPI engine in 305 or 350 and the full 1LE performance package PLUS Air Conditioning which was a delted option on all Z28 1LE cars. Kind of cool if you can find one, but they were almost exclusively police cars and have high miles now.

Dont confuse the guy with the 1LE or B4C stuff. Its very rare you will run across one.

I dont think the Z28's had a better transmission, but I could be wrong.

The Z28's without the G92 option will have the 110 MPH speedo too. The G92 option is dual catlytic converters and a better rear end with disc brakes.

TBI has two injectors on top of the throttle body, while TPI has 8 injectors, one at each port where the intake manifold meets the heads. TPI is definitely better but costs more and is a lot more complex.

The RS could also be had with the same size diameter sway bars as the Z28s. You had to get the optional 16" wheels.

You are right about what kind of v8 comes with 170 hp. Some came with less but it is nice to have an RS with more than 170. Most people look at my Camaro and underestimate it. I of course don't tell them any different so when they lose, they wonder why. Not that it is all that fast, but they think they can play with me.

With the 16" rims (F40 RPO code) the RS had the same sway bars as the stock Z28s, but the Z28s could upgrade to the mammoth 36/24 F41 suspenions, bastards
