Topic is just like it states. Has anyone taken the instrument cluster from a 91 camaro and placed it into an 85 camaro?

Also, are the steering wheels switchable? 91 into 85? (i know the 91 has an airbag as well)

You can switch the steering wheel.
The guage cluster will not drop in. You'd have to replace the whole dash unless you cut your current one. Also your 91 speedo is electronic while the 85 probably has a cable.

 

Cool thanks. I will be using an electronic speedo with the 91 dash. I do have the entire dash from the 91, just was hoping the cluster might somewhat pop in. Oh well, thanks for your input!

yep... you can swap the hole dash, but, your speedo will not work---

 

Hmm... well I am using the trans from the 91 which has the electronic speedo on it. Will it not work with that still? Or is the ECM responsible for the speedo ?

:edit: I might as well say I have both cars, the 91 and the 85. 85 had the 2.8 MPFI engine with auto and the 91 was an RS with auto as well. Not using the engine from either. The 91 is a parts car for the 85.

 

The VSS signal goes to the ECM which drives the speedo. So no, the speedo still will not work.

Do you perchance know what the voltage output from the ECM is as well as what in input from the VSS is?

The VSS puts out ac and the speedo uses dc. But what are the ranges for the voltages?
