Anybody runnin 3" duals?
Anybody runnin 3" duals?
I have an 84 z28 with hedman headers, 2 1/2" pipes and summit mufflers that are dumped before the rearend. I have stock wheels and tires. I scrape EVERY HUMP IN THE ROAD!! I've gotten used to just dodging all the bumps and goin slow over the dips in the road. I plan on gettin weld draglites and some radial slicks. I'm thinkin this will help some as far as ground clearance. Any suggestions on what size tires and what backspacing on the rim? Just curious to see if any of you guys have gone this route.
Re: Anybody runnin 3" duals?
I'm wondering about this, too. I just purchased my first f-body, an '86 z-28 with the 700r4, and I was considering 3" exhaust as one of my first mods. I do alot of auto-xing and I'd take serious consideration in ground clearance for that size exhaust.
Re: Anybody runnin 3" duals?
unless you're making about 400hp...there really isn't much need for true duals.
for some pics check out this thread, granted its on a 4th gen, but the concept should be the same

Well, I dont believe I'm at 400 hp just yet. But I do intend on getting there very soon. I don't want to jack the back of my car up like a top fuel funny car but i do want to put 10.5" slicks under it and its got the original rear springs, lower control arms and everything. Any good aftermarket springs for drag racing? Maybe even add a little room for slicks?
I run 3" true duals on my 4thgen and dont have any clearance issues at all. It's lowered too. Hard and time consuming, and requires minor dimpling of the floorboard in a couple areas to clear. I actually picked up some all over switching from a single 3" borla.
After doing mine I found a company that sells oval shaped pipe for low clearance applications. I dont remember the name though... try a search.
