Am I screwed or can I do something about this?

So I found out today that the motor in my car was not rebuilt... The o-rings, valves are burnt(that explains the smoke) and it's not running on one of the cylinders(explains the bogging/loss power.... So bascailly I need a new engine. The mechanic said it's not even worth changing the oil in it. You talk about being pissed off, if I had my car right now I'd drive over to that bitches house and drive the ****ing car into her house and hope I ran over her while her fatass and leave it. It'd be different if I didn't pay TWICE as much as the car is probably worth.

I have nothing written down that it was rebuilt, no reciepts. the only thing that says it was rebuilt is the ad in the paper, but I threw that away yesterday.

Arent you the guy that had a big thread about buying a V6? If I remember correctly didnt you test drive it and everything was fine? Anyone I hate to be the one to say it but youre screwed. I cant see anything you could possibly do in court with no proof. You could go talk to the lady but she isnt really going to care because she got paid. I know how it feels to get screwed. I paid ALOT of money for what I thought was a LT4 built long block with AFR heads and the works. It ended up being a 93 motor with forged cheapo pistons. The only thing i kept from that POS was the heads. Theyre with Lloyd now. The point is I pretty accepted that I got screwed over and accepted the fact that there is nothing I can do about it within the law. I learned ALOT from the situation now Im doing a 383 project. Take it in stride, learn from everything, and move on strong and make the most out of what you can and have. Good luck and sorry.

OH sh!@ Immortal!! Im sorry to hear this. Listen, most id do is see if i can get that cylinder back alive, barring its not dead because of a burnt valve, or hole in the piston. DRive it till you can get some money and get a 350. Dont bother putting a V6 back in it, unless you came across one for free.

EDIT, nevermind, you might need a new tranny too, since its a v6 motor.

Yes that was me. I did test drive it and it seemed fine. I knew it was a V6 so it wasn't gonna be fast, and people on here were saying the v6 is slow, so I thought it was normal for it to be slow. And at the time of test driving it, it never missed, never bogged down or anything. The only thing I heard that wasn't normal was the rattling/scrapping sound. She said it was the bracket on the exhaust, and I believed it because I thought it'd made sense that when you let off the gas it would rattle because it was loose or something because of the vibration.... Now I know the sound is coming from INSIDE the engine... but that is my fault because i dont know anything about working on cars.

If I had some money I wouldn't be so pissed off, but I am flat broke right now. I had to borrow $10 for gas to take it to the mechanic, and I was gonna borrow the money to fix it if it was gonna cost under $200 to fix.

No worries. How much is a rebuilt version of your motor at Auto zone or where ever? Not that I would but you could just get a rebuilt V6. You could also just drive it until you can save enough money to convert it. Either way things will work out.

I dont want to rebuild this motor, I'd rather just put it towards a v8. That's what I had originally planned to do in about a year. I guess I'll just run this bitch into the ground and hope by then I have enough money for a v8 swap.

You got any links to some sites that has used v8s for sale? Like a company that deals with just motors? with my luck, if I buy something off ebay I'll get screwed again.

Go to your local junk yards. I wish I lived near, I'd give you my 93 free.

Lets see what it would cost for you to come get this motor from me:

Round trip ticket to The Kingdom of Bahrain located in the Midle East $1600
Cost once you get here to ship the free motor home DHL $900
The doctor bill for passing out due to heat stroke $depends

Add it all up and you could buy a used 93 LT1 car, convertable at that

Yeah it doesn't look like you got anything on her toget money back.

With regards to you engine being totally shot,,,, too many times too many people write off engines,,,,,,, many times a Chevy small block with 5 psi oil pressure, burning oil, making light ticking/knocking etc. etc. has been made to last long enough until a person can get themself the required engine and parts to re place.

If it were mine (doing one's own work):

1) determine why one cylinder is missing, if easy fix (plug/wire/fuel etc.) fix it and get it running on all six. It is possible that it is just a fouled plug as it is burning oil

2) valve seals: once you have an engine that is running on all six do a compression test, you may have to do a compression test to diagnose why only runnng on five,, however if you can determine that the engine is OK change the valve seals,, I am not sure but I would think you can do those seals with the engine in the car just like many other small blocks.

If the above is only because of the burning oil, due to valve seals, new plugs and odd item you are probably OK for under $75 easy.

That should get you by until you scrape the coin for a swap.

Re: Am I screwed or can I do something about this?

I called the people back and explained what all is happening in a nicely manner hoping that maybe we could work something out, but she still wanted to lie to me about the motor saying it was rebuilt. The mechanic said that the bolts weren't even touched at all so there was no way it was rebuilt. I got another paper and the car is still listed in there clearly as "new rebuilt engine with 3,000 miles" and nothing about being sold as is. I have all the reciepts that she gave me and not one of them says anything about any work done to the motor.. I might be wasting my time but maybe I do have a chance to get some money back in court. Or the price of what a rebuild would cost. The mechanic that looked at my car said if I were to take her to court that he would come with me. So with the ad stating it is a rebuilt motor, and the mechanic proving that it isn't I still don't have a chance in court?

Check out your local junkyards or www.hawksthirdgenparts.com, I'm sure you can find a good running used v8 for less then the cost of a rebuilt 3.1L. And after you are done installing the new motor, dump the v6 POS in that womans front yard. I always hate seeing people get ripped off, you just gotta be careful in the future, dont jump for the first thing you find, and its always good to pay a mechanic to do a prelimary check on a vehicle. Good luck.

When it says "Mileage varies from 100,000-160,000 miles", does that mean how many miles are ON the motor or is it saying it will last for another 100,000-160,000 miles?

That is the actual miles on the engines. He obviously has several motors in stock and the mileage of these are in the RANGE of 100,000-160,000 miles. There is never going to be an exact life expectancy on the motors. Maybe some other board members have some ideas though where you can find a used engine with lesser miles.
