Am I getting ripped?
Hi there, Im looking at an 84 z28
The guy who owns it says that it has a 305 HO
Im thinking that maybe hes lieing about the High Output part
which makes a world of difference (about 40 horsepower)
How do I tell?

check the VIN number. www.carfax.com you don't have to pay for the car info (such as year, engine type, and such), but you do have to pay if you want to check out the history of the car.
Where's the redline? The LG4 redlined at 5000 if I remember right and was pretty much DEAD above 4200. The L69 redlined at 5500. Once again I can not remember for sure but I think those numbers are right. Check thirdgen.org they used to have a Vin checker on there.

'84 Z28s did come with a HO motor option.. like IrocManiac said.. check the redline on the tachometer..
It's also a good idea to check the VIN.. that way you know what the car came with from the factory.. good luck
