I need to know if all the 82-92 F-body air dams have the same PN and are interchangable? I seen them on eBay, and they were advertised to fit all 82-92 Camaro/Firebirds, and then.....

I seen a 90 something Firebird this weekend, and it looked like it had some sort of round piece on it, instead of the straight air dam that hangs down on most 3rd gens. I didn't know if maybe it was missing the front piece of a gfx, and that was custom?

you need a front air dam no matter what on a third gen camaro/firebird. the air dam plays an important role in keeping the engine cool. Most third gens that have overheating issues are the cars with the tune port setup. I myself own a carbed 86 irocz and never had problems with my engine cooling systems. There maybe a custom air dam designed for third generation camaro/firebirds out there in the market designed to bring more air up into the engine which is primarily what it is there for. All in all many parts will switch from a firebird to a camaro or vice virsa. I'm currently working on a project of taking two cars and making one. I'm taking parts from a 1991 Trans Am GTA and putting them on my Iroc. Many parts have to be changed and such because the firebirds were normally rounded off more than the camaros like the air dams and sideskirts as well as the interior. The parts were in a way interchangeable.

 

Thanks for your reply. I know that all f-bodys need an air dam. I just need to know if the same air dam fits both Camaros and Firebirds from 82-92.
