Alernator Belt Screaming

Another Freakin Problem....
I go to take my girlfriend to work, and the belt starts to scream, don't know the problem is, the alternators been in for afew weeks now, and it just started, I figure I have to replace the belt.

so how do I get enough tension on the belt, I'm not known for my stregth mind you, and its just me, no buddies, and its 5:45 am, I need to fix this before 1 pm to get my Girlfriend from work, shes insanely pissed off right now, as anyone would be after that

the belt seems ok, its (the belt) very hot up at the alternator, so thats why I figure thats the problem.

Any solutions? I will go buy a belt today I guess, the other seems usable, but I might as well.

Just how do I get enough tension on the belt for it not to slip?

Thanks you guys, my car would be dead without you

Well, you need a bar of some kind to put a lot of leverage with not so much effort. Pry against the alt. body just behind the bracket.(Factory tire irons work great!)
Get the belt tight enough so that it will only bow about 1/4 of an inch as you push on it with your finger. If the pulleys got contaminated with oil or anitfreeze, degrease them with spray brake cleaner.

Yep just use a bar between the bracket and the alt. to tighten it up.
If that doesn't work, try some belt dressing from an auto parts strore.

Ah, got it to work :)

They told me I needed new belts, and 20 bucks a pop, and they also tried to sell me new 02 censors, the price was insane, so I went back home empty handed and looked at the belt, which I havent seen in day light yet, and I noticed that it was in good condition, but that it was loose, so I used a pry bar to fix the tension problem, and I guess it is good that I did it, as it sounds like its what must be done to get it to work

Thanks guys, I know I have alot of problems with my car, its a half year behind schedule in making it better, by now I should have my 383, but I've spent all my money keeping the 305 alive

Thanks again
