aklim, whats your opinion

ok, its getting closer to "go" time for ordering parts for the winter project.

I know you have a good setup where you run in the 12's. And I know we fight sometimes about different things. But! Heres what I wanna do... AFR heads (commonly accepted to be awesome)... with an AFR hydra rev kit, COMP R lifters, and a cam... therein lies the problem. I need a cam thats gonna work with a Stealth Ram, AFR heads (possibly 195's), 10.1:1 compression, 1 3/4" SLP shorties and a vig. 2800 convertor 3.73 gears blah blah blah its in the sig. I am gonna stay hyd. roller but it appears that I need more cam for a setup like this.

eres what I am thinking: 230*-ish range with .525 lift numbers-ish on a 112* LSA. I don't want a spikey powerband as thats no fun on the street. I want a broad powerband that looks like the astrodome... not the eiffel tower. Catch my drift?

Opinions, please.

Comp makes a hyd roller that's perfect for that application. Xtreme Energy hydraulic roller 282 grind. Ricktpi over on www.thirdgen.org has/had that same exact combo. Talk to him.

I want to run 12's every time I blast down the strip. No Nitrous Jeff! I want to have this car NA... until the twin turbos go on...

We banter back and forth about what we think works best. Nothing personal. No offense taken or given. Hell, I can't even remember what we disagreed on.

Why are you going with 10:1 compression? I would think for NA you could go higher. I am running 10.8:1 because I told AFR to cut the heads to that specific combination. Of course, that means you can't run nitrous or a blower but even at 10:1 you are in that region anyway.

You might be in luck. I was just talking to someone about a custom cam grind and they will give me more specs. When I have them and the cost, I will post it here. We shall see.

BTW, my cam is 219 duration with .525 lift and 112 LSA and I am using 1.6 RR to bump it up to .560 and it has a pretty wide powerband. Let me get back to that someone and see where you can go.

Edit: Do you have the RRs yet or what ratio did you have in mind?

To be in the 12s is one thing we can help here with our opinions. To be touching 12s is something MJ can help you with.

Aklim, I already have a set of 1.52 Comp PRO MAGS and I don't plan on getting rid of them. ( I know I know... you need to get the right combo etc but I already have them and I bought them at a STEAL pricetag so. )

Anyway, I was thinking that I should maybe call Holley and AFR to see what they recommend. I do however like the idea of a custom grind as I have seen one put down 392 to the wheels on a 355 LT1 with ARE stage 1 LT1 castings and 10.5ish:1 compression. The motor makes insane power... and just nit the 12's on the last run of teh season but thats a different matter. Anyway, I'm at 10.1:1 with the current 64cc heads and pistons I have. I was told that it was closer to 10.3:1 but a little help from Novaman and we figgered it to be a little lower. So with 68cc heads I'll be in the high 9's for compression... nothing spectacular but at least its not low 9's. So, the LPE 219 single pattern is a good cam, anything bigger that I can run? I know Duke has a friggin .600 cam in his motor. Idles smoother than my car does too. Keep the stuff coming fellas.
