AIR system

OK i am an LT1 guy but i need to learn about your fancy TPI systems . My first question is on a 1989 Formy the air injection system. On this system the AIR is injected into manifolds, now on an LT1 the AIR is also injected into the manifolds. And on this system it only runs the first 2 min of start up to heat up the cats. This is why on an LT1 AIR can be removed and have to effect on the emissions sniff test. Now since the system on the formy is the same (AIR injected into the manifold) i want to know when if this system only runs during the first 2 min also. I would think it would have to because if it was on all the time it would screw up the O2 sensor readings right?

Re: AIR system

only runs at certain times and is not necessary for emissions. everyone around me passes no problem with no air and just cats on thirdgens.

Re: AIR system

The TPI A.I.R. system runs on the exhaust manifolds for a few minutes after a cold start. It then switches to the catalytic converter (only) after that. It will bypass both the cat and the manfolds under the following conditions:

rich operation (i.e. sustained full throttle)
decelleration (high vacuum, closed throttle)
high rpm light throttle
any time the car is in limp or bypass mode (I believe...)

Re: AIR system

Will pulling it off of a TBI 305 help out in the power department any? Or would it just be easier to just leave it installed?

Re: AIR system

disconnecting the belt saves horsepower
pulling it off also saves weight
