Dont know about hp gains but I think it helped my car, yes you can remove it, thirdgen.org has a tech article about belt routing on a serpentine.

Only if you test it. It is supposed to pump air into the exhaust before the cat gets up to temp so that it has exhaust warming the air when it hits the cat. After it warms up, it sprays the air into the cat directly. It will not trip a sensor code. Remove it and reinstall before you go for testing.

My county doesnt test emissions so I dont need to worry about that... I don't even have a cat.

Wink

Remove it today and reinstall it when you are going to be tested and remove it when you pass the test. Repeat.

Take the AIR diverter valve off and cap it where the intake manifold meets the one way valve. Remove all the tubing. Remove the AIR diverter. Take the serpentine belt off. Take 3 bolts off and the air pump comes off. Get a few belts from the store that are shorter than stock and try them on. Keep parts and old belt so you can reinstall if need be.
