Question Air Foil, Does it make any difference?

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=6&pcid=220

I wouldn't expect much... but I see these advertised a lot for the TPI and they say it helps the engine breathe a bit better.

Is this true? Anyone here buy one?

Its a Minor Mod that almost everyone with a TPI makes. It is useful, however Do Not expect to turn your stock TPI into a 13 second car by using it.

I think it makes a bigger hit in your wallet than on the dyno.

save your money...the larger throttle bodies typically have them already on the piece and that's when you'll actually use it.

save it for gas.

Yep, I agree with the people above. Buy yourself a 52mm throttle body with an airfoil already in it. That's worth a lot more than just an airfoil on the stock 48mm.

Re: Air Foil, Does it make any difference?

If you intend on making more HP it's a decent little mod. At higher RPM's there should be a slight difference. Buying a bigger TB such as a 52 or 58 is not necessary, even on engine that is nicely modded. So IMO, it's worth it, but find the cheapest one you can. (even if on ebay)

i disagree..........especially with a tpi stock intake those things need to breath. a larger tb properly matched with a good intake and exhaust makes all the difference. can't say much though since my stock L98 with only a 4" cold air, 3" exhaust, 52 tb and bumped up fuel pressure went 13.7's on h rated street tires.

Re: Air Foil, Does it make any difference?

I just bought one from a board member for $20 shipped. Would never buy a new one though, just got this one bc it was a deal.

I've seen a dyno graph in the LT1 section of a 2HP/2lb-ft increase with just adding the foil.

seen on desktop dyno, ( not saying that it could be held true, even lingenfelter did many test and came with same conclusion) but never seen a down fall for more air on a EFI it will adjust air/fuel and use all the air it can.. wouldn't go any bigger than 52 on a stock, 58 on just about anything else, and for extreme wild big intake big heads, big cam, big exhaust, big njectors, big pcm chip, then you go for the 1300cfm monoblade

Talking Re: Air Foil, Does it make any difference?

A stock 48mm throttle body if you flow it with a TPIS air foil will flow 767cfm @ 28" the stock 48 will flow 731, so they do what they are intended to do. I have owned several tpi cars and an LT1 car, and the first mod I have done is the airfoil even before I worked at TPIS. I agree once you start to mod your car extensively you need to upgrade to the 52mm which most companys have aifoils in them when they CNC or hand port them or whatever they do to get them out to 52mm.

I have seen dyno numbers first hand and if they are a decent airfoil like ours they will add power.

Take 'er easy,
Erik

TPIS will claim anything to sell a part at inflated prices to people who do not know better. You sound like a candidate.

Re: Air Foil, Does it make any difference?

I will let you know something, I had a Foil in my car. With out it & the car 100% stock I was running 14.8s down the 1/4mile. With the Airfoil, Hypertech chip, Bottom cut out of the air box & ran ONE 14.66 the rest was 14.7s-14.8s. Not enough to make big diffrance.
