AHHH CRAP! Not another problem... =\

ok, i was going to pick up my car today, when i decided to call up my mechanic to make sure everything was ok. the moment i called he said "we're having problems with your fuel injectors (svo, 24#), they're running really rich and fouling up the plugs within 5 minutes... and the car is having problems idleing." now i had a custom chip burnt for my car, and i gave it to him to install since he told me he would rather install it than me... w/e, anyway, the chip was made for 24# svo's, and now my mechanic wants to put the stock fuel injectors back on to see if it would work. i'd rather him not do that, but unless he, or i, can figure out why the car's running so rich, he's going to do it. the fuel pressure is set at 40 psi like the guy burning my chip told me to put it, and timing is set at 8* advanced. compression is around 10:3 or 10:5 to 1 on iron heads. would colder plugs solve my problem? i assume he's thinking im running rich because of the plugs getting fouled out so quickly... but wouldn't that happen too if the plugs aren't cold enough?if it's the fuel pressure, you think turning it down some would help? thanks guys for your advice in advance peace

What is your fuel pressure set at? Who did your EPROM? Colder plugs would make it worse, if possible. Your stock injectors are 22pph for a 350 and 19 pph for a 305. If you have a 350, I doubt it made that much difference.

Well, it depends on how far you want to go. fasterproms is in Tampa FL and if you feel you have got everything else correct, give them a call and have them try their hand at it.

i think thats it's something to do with the ignition...i dont think it's producing enough spark for the fuel. i have a new hypertech coil, accel cap and rotor... maybe my distributor is being retarded?

it throws out 53k volts while the msd coil spits out 48k volts... i think, seriously, it has something to do with the ignition. it isn't sending enough spark to the plugs. would that be a problem with the coil, or the distributor?

Put the stock chip back in and see what happens. I don't think the SVO injectors are the problem.

I'd have him go over it and make sure he got the injector constant right. How much did he charge you?

he charged me $50... thing is, my setup is pretty much close to his... same injectors and same compression, pretty much the same cam... i didnt think it would be too hard for him to custom make me a chip since our setups were close to one another.

Did your mechanic set the FP with the vacuum line off the regulator? Did your mechanic check for vacuum leaks? A vacuum leak would cause the computer to think that the throttle was opened and it would need more fuel, hence fouling the plugs.

Lets eliminate a couple oif things. Is the timing set right? When you ground the threads of the spark plug and crank it at night, is it blue or not. Any other color than blue means a weak spark.

The injectors are not your problem. I have 24lb. Ford Motorsport injectors in my STOCK 350 and it does run a tad rich but no where near rich enough to foul my plugs.

when i tested the spark on my fouled up rapidfires when i blew my engine, the spark was redish/orange. then i put my friend's autolites and they gave a brighter white/blue... would colors change if your plugs get fouled?

I would imagine so. Fouled plugs have carbon on them and I believe carbon gives orange flames. Also the resistance would go up and the spark current might not be enough to make the blue flame anymore.
